Florescence is an immersive mural project that organically became the next chapter to, The End of Shame. Roots enter the underground story and provide a place for new life to grow, transforming the atmosphere from a barren iceberg of shame into a space of beauty and blooming.
The trauma and pain behind shame can become a well of strength. Over time the fragrance of compassion and self-love yield the creation of new stories and a new identity.

“I noticed that a lot of the painterly marks in ‘The End of Shame’ resembled roots. While an iceberg had been my original jumping off point aesthetically, the installation was taking on a secondary life as the underground. This was an unexpected but sweet full circle nod to the collages I made for over 10 years exploring the underground and subconscious, often playing with the symbol of roots.
Eventually I evolved from my foundational creative medium of collage, as I was craving working on a large scale and with paint. I never expected I’d be able to paint the kind of texture and understory I’d uncovered with my collages but here, with each layer leading, I’d found my way back to those images, now on a larger more immersive scale.
…I created an underworld that you can step into.
“The roots grew to almost resemble nerves, or neural pathways in the mind. They became a metaphor for the renewal of the mind - new pathways of self-love, compassion and grace replacing the old narrative of isolation and shame.
