The Burning of lies

The Burning of lies 〰️

The Burning of Lies is an immersive installation by artist Camille Javal that evolved out of her healing mural project, The End of Shame. Colour, abstract marks and painted props are used to explore, feel and subsequently shift the frozen atmosphere around shame. Books painted in colors of blue and red to mirror the aesthetic world of the artwork, are styled in a fireplace to represent lies. The burning of these books, or lies, creates heat that catalyzes melting the iceberg of shame.

Shame can become like the smell of our own homes. The hum of an air conditioner. The feel of a wedding ring. It’s just… there. Which is when it is most dangerous. Because it is then that we are most likely to dismiss, rather than deal with, its dangerous effects.

The canvas is a studio, with brushstrokes covering not only walls, but the floor, beams, ceiling and architectural elements. As the painting is three-dimensional, the emotion of shame is given form and can be entered.

“My process is very physical and body centered. I used the physicality of painting on a large scale to explore whether creating a new atmosphere in the physical can yield parallel transformative shifts internally as well.
